We are what's called "intensive" bee farmers - which means that we inspect our colonies on a regular basis, taking detailed notes about them so we can predict what they will need, before they need it.
This mindful style of beekeeping is impossible for large-scale honey-producers, but it's what makes us truly special.
Please reach us via the "contact us" page if you cannot find an answer to your question.
All of our beekeepers hold beekeeping qualifications at diploma-level, so every decision is made with the bees' best interests In mind.
We only use gentle methods of inspecting and harvesting, seeking to be as humane as possible.
We don't harvest bee venom, royal jelly or any other product that can only be obtained through invasive methods.
In order for us to harvest honey from our bees, the honey boxes need to be cleared of bees.
We use what is known as a "clearer board", which is a simple one-way door to encourage the foraging bees to leave the boxes. Most large-scale honey producers either knock or blow the bees out by force, but we object to this treatment and opt for only gentle methods.
We take every step possible to minimise the risk of hurting a bee during inspection and harvest.
We don't use gloves, so we stay present in the moment. Our hands are free to feel the bees as we move through the colony, which is an important part of our handling them gently and with respect.
