About Litha Bees
Litha Bees was born from a shared desire to elevate the status of honey—not just as a product, but as a reflection of ecological care, craftsmanship, and deep respect for the natural world.
Our practice combines gentle husbandry techniques with modern innovation to refine an ancient craft. We believe that beekeeping is not simply a rural tradition—it’s a form of stewardship.
Meet the Team
We’re a small but dedicated crew of beekeepers, makers, and educators who care deeply about the land, the bees, and the people we serve. Each of us brings a unique skill set to the hive—whether it’s crafting herbal blends, building resilient infrastructure, or guiding hands-on courses. Together, we keep Litha Bees buzzing.

HEAD BEEKEEPER - PHOEBE LAMB
Our beekeeping practice is led by Phoebe, who has worked with bees across varied climates and cultural contexts since 2012. Her foundation was shaped through an apprenticeship with the Bee Farmers’ Association, where she gained practical insight into sustainable hive management. This was further deepened by her time on a large-scale commercial honey farm in New Zealand, where she refined her understanding of colony dynamics at scale. Her approach remains grounded in ecological sensitivity, technical precision, and a deep respect for the bees she stewards.

CO-FOUNDER - ALEXANDER KAY
Al brings a practical, detail-oriented skillset to the apiary, specialising in woodwork and equipment maintenance. From constructing hive boxes to repairing tools, his work ensures the infrastructure remains resilient and fit for purpose across the seasons. As smoker-in-chief, he plays a vital role in maintaining calm during inspections, allowing for safe and respectful interaction with the colonies.

MENTORS - KATHY & KEVIN SHAW
Kevin and Kathy are retired beekeepers whose decades of experience continue to shape our practice. Their mentorship offers a steadying presence, grounded in deep practical knowledge and a long view of the craft. From seasonal rhythms to subtle shifts in bee behaviour, they bring insight that only time can teach. Though no longer active in the field, their guidance remains integral—offering perspective, troubleshooting wisdom, and a quiet reminder of the values that underpin good beekeeping.
